In the past two years, the price of photovoltaic solar glass has fluctuated sharply.

In 2019, under the background of the shortage of materials and the continuous increase of new double glass modules, the price of photovoltaic glass has increase by 40%,from USD3.1/SQM toUSD4.4/SQM.

In the second half of 2020, the domestic photovoltaic market demand is strong, and the supply of photovoltaic glass is insufficient, and the price has doubled, once more than USD7.8/SQM.

However, since March 2021, affected by the price increase of the entire photovoltaic industry chain, terminal demand has been sluggish, the scale of new installed capacity has declined year-on-year, and the price of photovoltaic glass has instantly dropped to the level of 2019.

According to the calculations of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association, 2021 China new installed capacity is about 55 million KW, while only 13 million KW were completed in the first half of the year.

Since 2021 Sep,many solar glass manufacturers announced price increase,The average price of 3.2mm solar glass was USD4.05/SQM. the average price of 2.2mm solar was USD3.15/SQM, This is the highest average price of solar glass in the spot market since mid-May, which has risen for two consecutive weeks.

The market demand was released in next few months, and the supply of photovoltaic glass was insufficient during the same period, and the supply of photovoltaic glass will once again enter a tight balance.

In fact, when the price of photovoltaic glass reached high point in 2020, the industry began to build new production lines. According to statistics released by EnergyTrend, at least 12 major photovoltaic glass expansion projects have been announced in2021, with a total investment of nearly 7 billion dollars.

We believes that these new capacities cannot solve the short-term shortage of photovoltaic glass. The general construction period is 1.5 to 2 years. 2021 production expansion projects are not expected to be fully released until 2023, and the capacity supply situation in 2021 cannot be effectively alleviated. In the long run, from 2022 to 2023, the industry’s new capacity will be relatively large, and the expansion projects started from 2021 will be released in 2023, then the price of photovoltaic glass may decrease.

It is estimated that by 2025, photovoltaic glass production capacity can meet global demand. the production capacity of ultra-white patterned glass can reach 110,000 tons/day, which can effectively support the world’s 677 million KW requirement per year.
